From genome surveillance networks to a new generation of African research leaders, WANETAM builds the capacity that turns scientific ambition into public health impact.

Sub-Saharan Africa continues to face a heavy burden from poverty-related diseases . TB, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and neglected tropical diseases, while the research capacity to address them remains uneven across institutions, individuals, and funding levels. WANETAM-4, funded through the EU's Global Health EDCTP3 programme, builds on three previous tranches of funding to strengthen a network of clinical research sites across West Africa, train the next generation of African research leaders, and deepen ties with national public health institutions.

Welcome to WANETAM.

Since 2009, our network has worked to strengthen clinical research capacity across West Africa — building the institutions, training the scientists, and forging the partnerships needed to confront tuberculosis, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and other poverty-related diseases that continue to burden our region.

WANETAM-4 marks a new chapter in that journey. With support from the EU’s Global Health EDCTP3 programme, we now bring together 23 institutions across 12 countries — Anglophone, Francophone, and Lusophone alike — united by a shared commitment to research excellence and the next generation of African scientific leadership.
